I have a friend who is selling there beauty supply business and wants advice on how to sell it.
A little information about the store, it has over 20,000 products, 2 employees, been around for 11 years, gets moderate traffic, gross revenue of 100k-125k a year does not have an accountant.
What they wanted to know is what they need to do if they've set a price and have people interested in it like what they should have prepared.Advice on selling a beauty supply business?
I work for a merger/acquisition firm. We deal with large businesses but you would want to have all the audited tax financials/accounting/tax returns ready for review (especially since there is no accountant). Make sure any interested parties sign a confidentiality agreement so they can't disclose all of your financial information. Also have inventory sheets ready and disclose any/all financial related info. to the business. You may want to hire an attorney to cover yourself or a small business broker. This is a very important transaction and should be handled so your friend comes out ahead and gets maximum value for the business.Advice on selling a beauty supply business?

I need some advice regarding my starting business?
i have started my own business i opened a place where i put PlayStations and users come and play for some money..something like a net cafe but for PlayStation... i need some ideas so that i can upgrade my business so that i gain money and minimize the loss... i thought about starting a tournament between players... yet i still need some bright ideas....
forgive me for my English and thanks in advance.I need some advice regarding my starting business?
Sounds like an interesting business and a tournament is a good idea. Try to utilize social networks, like facebook, to promote your tournament and bring in more customers. Facebook is most widely used by teenagers, which is also probably your target market.
Setup a facebook group for you business, invite everyone you know, especially your current clients. Offer your current clients updates on promotional discounts as incentive to sign up to the facebook group. Send regular updates on promotions and events to your clients. Your clients will invite their friends (who they think would be interested in your service) to your group, who will then invite their friends and it'll spread like wild fire.
In addition to a facebook group, setup an e-mail marketing campaign to send your regular clients updates on promotions that your business is offering (for example, Tuesday 20% off admission fee). Keeping your regular clients updated on new promotions will save the expense of trying to get new clients. You'll get more from clients who already like what you're offering and would most likely want more.
Hope this helps!I need some advice regarding my starting business?
Tournaments are the real money makers for game box cafes. It will improve your foot traffic and gain you market exposure. Invest in some advertisement for the tourney. Guarantee a prize level, but charge entry to the tourney so you will profit. The real profit made by tourneys is the refreshments that customers will buy while watching and playing.

Need advice for starting a gems business in Australia Sydney at present i am in India?
I would like to know the process and all other requirement need for starting a office in Sydney for gems business and also the process and the kind of visa i need to apply for it.
i shall be grateful to everyone for their advice
ThanksNeed advice for starting a gems business in Australia Sydney at present i am in India?
If you pass the financial criteria for entry (able to self support) then you have 1 year to set up your business as a going concern. If you fail their conditions you will be 'invited' to go home.Need advice for starting a gems business in Australia Sydney at present i am in India?
In Australia, no matter what your business is, you'd be undone by much higher labour costs. The legal minimum wage for adults is AUD$14.31 per hour, not to mention recruitment, insurance, worksafe and other compulsory administration costs. As a rule of thumb here, the actual cost of hiring someone is 2.5 times what they get paid pretax.
I'd advise you to keep your business in India and try to sell through a distributor instead.
You will need to apply for a Business Skills visa which will take 12-15 months if you meet all of the requirements. For information on the available business visas, go to:
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/business/鈥?/a>
You should also engage the services of an accountant in Australia who is experienced in the establishment of new, import based businesses.

Advice for business networking cards?
I'm interested in creating networking cards to help advance my career but I feel slightly uncomfortable putting my home address on them. At the same time, I feel as though putting a P.O. Box address on them may send the wrong message. I don't want to come off as shady. Is my address that important? Or can I omit it?
Thank you.Advice for business networking cards?
Take it off. Most transactions and correspondence is done electronically. Put an email, website, and mobile number on there with some clever artwork. That should be sufficient. No one needs to know where you live.
Plus... if you move, you won't have to reorder new cards!Advice for business networking cards?
I would agree. Don't put a physical address. Include your email address and your username for any social media outlets you are a member of like: Twitter, Facebook, and/or LinkedIn.

Need serious advice about a new concept in business鈥?
I live in India and I am working for a company which provides online tuitions to students of USA.
Company is planning to start Online Teaching of Indian Languages. We are targeting Non Resident Indians who are poor in their native language. For example, if an Indian guy is born and bought up in USA and he is not so PRO in Hindi language, he can book sessions with us and learn Hindi. In this new concept, people will book sessions in advance, qualified tutors will teach them language by using Skype and Web Camera (Audio+Video).
I want your opinion. Do you think people will pay to learn their native language? During my trips in various countries I have noticed that so many people want their kids to learn native language but will they like to pay to learn it?
Serious replies please鈥︹€?Need serious advice about a new concept in business鈥?
It doesn't seem unreasonable, but I'm skeptical of it being heavily used.
For Indians in the United States, the money to be made is not with learning Hindi, but the accent reduction and Americanization skills that are used in the call centers in India.
Still, there are always movements (particularly in parents educating their children) to preserve one's home culture, so I do see some market for your plan. It might be wise to prepare in advance for tutors and materials geared for children aged 5-15 years.
Another possible market is to educate business professionals who have little or no ability to speak Hindi.
If it's possible, you should begin future plans to offer instruction in other languages using this technology. Punjab, Mandarin, Japanese, and a European language or two (hmmm...even English!) might be a good future expansion.Need serious advice about a new concept in business鈥?
I believe people will pay for just about anything if it is marketed correctly. The ability to speak more than one language in today's global society is a real plus. Also the way India is becoming more and more of a part of today's global business it is an excellent idea. I would not limit your services to people with an Indian decent. Like I mentioned before business has become global and perhaps people of non-Indian decent could really take advantage of the opportunity also. As far as people paying to have their children learn either a second language or ';native'; language that too has many positive affects. Learning another language expands the mind and encourages more learning.

I'm want to start an online business but don't know how to go about doing it. Any advice?
I am looking to start an online business. I've already got the idea of what i'm going to be selling and have even found distributors and looked over the products. How do I go about purchasing a domain and finding a web host? How much do these usually cost? How do I register my business? And, how do I go about accepting payments? Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.I'm want to start an online business but don't know how to go about doing it. Any advice?
I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/
Powweb is on a 50% sale - $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them.
They include easy, one click install of these E-Commerce solutions:

ZenCart truly is the art of e-commerce; a free, user-friendly, open source shopping cart system. The software is being developed by group of like-minded shop owners, programmers, designers, and consultants that think e-commerce could be and should be done differently.
osCommerce

It is an e-commerce framework solution that not only remains easy to setup and maintain, but also makes it easier for store administrators to present their stores to their customers with their own unique requirements.

Hi,
You have the right idea here. The only answer in the current climate is an online business where you don't have all the expenses of an offline business and basically you do it from home. You already have a computer and internet access so why not make money from them?
You will need some training to make your website SELL. This is quite an art form and also getting visitors to it is yet another art form.
This training is available in one place here:
http://www.helpandinfo.com/go/learn
This guy will teach you EVERYTHING you will need to know about websites, domain names, traffic to your site etc AND NOT ONLY THAT he'll show you how you can make some great money in the meantime.
Read ALL the page and watch the videos on it. You may be surprised at what's possible.
cheers.
I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.
Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukend鈥?/a>
They offer hosting of ';unlimited domains'; and you will get massive webspace of 1500000 MB (1500 GB ). I am looking into a direct sale home party business. Any advice or comments?
What company would i be most successful with (avon, partylite, mary kay, etc.) What do consumers think of products from companies such as these. I have a friend who sells partylite that is trying to take me under her wing. Would this be the best option. Could I do more then one. I dont want charity from my family and friends I want to carry good products that people really like and really want to buy.I am looking into a direct sale home party business. Any advice or comments?
I don't recommend any of those programs (pyramid schemes). It's like a hopeless pink-collar ghetto-- you don't make much money and all the women interested in the same sort of items to sell all drive down each other's income and are competing for a finite number of customers.
If you want to get into sales and have a talent for it, get a real sales job at a real company. For example, radio stations always need sale people to sell advertising slots. But all that home party selling stuff is for crap and it EXPLOITS women with low self-esteem who think they can only work from home.
Either get out there into the REAL business world or don't do it at all. I have a Mary Kay relative who spends more on going to conventions than she makes, and my mother was a Tupperware lady. It's just not worth it for the time you put in to it.I am looking into a direct sale home party business. Any advice or comments?
Direct sales are not pyramid schemes. A payramid scheme is where some company require a ';sign up'; fee. The person that signs them up makes money for nothing, and there is no end. They keep signing and keep getting money.
When you are in direct sales, you are selling a product!
It really irriates me that people think that all home business' are scams and for women with low self esteem. These ladies work hard at what they do and enjoy their jobs. How many people can say that?
Sell whatever products you love and believe in! Be sure to do your homework before making a final decision as some pay out a higher percentage-it is up to YOU in the end! GOOD LUCK! If you need anything please do not hesitate to contanct me.

This is for people that are serious and who don鈥檛 want to be misled and get into having to host aparties all the time as we have tried many things and have found a company that has been around for 21 Years and pays you to advertise for them. My wife and I just started and are doing well. It is not an MLM company and no selling, no deliveries or stocking product. My wife鈥檚 aunt has been working with this Company (Melaleuca) for a little over 3 years and home schools 3 kids and makes $9,000 a month. It is a 500 Inc company and the CEO is on the U.S. Chamber of commerce board. I can arrange a web cast with my wife鈥檚 aunt for you and you can decide by yourself and WE WILL help you be successful. It is an honest Win Win.
If you want to see a web cast (presentation) from your home let me know and I will arrange it as that truly is the way to see all about Melaleuca. Have you heard of it. We have just gotten started with my wife's aunts help as it is a team effort and it is fun. Just a quick F.Y.I. 8 out of 10 people that see the web cast join the company and 95% of the people that join re-order product each and every month. Let me know when you are ready and we will set up the web cast.

I know alot of ladies around here sell arbonne and do well at that. I guess I would look around at all the different types and see what one interests me the most, and which ones offer the best profits.
My sisters and cousins have done a variety of parties... but it seems like the Magic Chef (kitchen gizmos, etc.) has done the best. A friend of mine has had a good home party business with Discovery Toys (educational toys, etc.). Both of the businesses I mentioned are of high quality and in demand; you can't buy them in stores. Good luck.
Well partylite does cross gender boundries more so than any costmetics company. You could also look into ';Tastefully Simply'; and ';Pampered Chef'; too!!
Everyone loves food!
I just answered a question you posted regarding PartyLite specifically... I am currently a consultant and can say this: talk to your friend about PartyLite and consider the hostess program (how much the person having the party will get for free) and the profit program (how much YOU will make as a consultant). I can tell you and your friend will agree that PartyLite offers the best hostess program and opportunity to make money :) I love Pampered Chef and Tastefully Simple and Tupperware, but it saddens me to know how much less you get by hosting one of their shows or selling their product. Don't take it from me - do the research... your answer is in the numbers.

What advice would you give to a teenager who would like to start a business?
I would recommend that you figure out what you're interested in. Next, I would ask to interview people that are currently doing what you want to do. Buy them a cup of coffee or lunch and be prepared to ask a lot of questions (i.e. how did they get started, what advice would they offer, etc.).
Scott.....What advice would you give to a teenager who would like to start a business?
Do the research, make sure there's a viable business opportunity. What advice would you give to a teenager who would like to start a business?
finish school first
it depends... you should have permission....
and also make sure you will still go to college even tho if the business gets good b/c one day you might get in debt and things might fall apart and you might need to go back to real life...lol
ALso make sure you are up for it ... bc in the beginning is very hard .....it can either go up very fast or it might take a while to get you clients/customers you know..
but if it's a dream and you are able to do it with no complications such as familys permission adn stuff then go for it!
Write a good business plan and follow your passion. The money will follow.
um do it? just make sure the studies dont suffer (sorry i sound like a old parent)

My business partner and I are planning to move to Puerto Vallarta and open a small bookstore/wine/coffee shop. Have just started researching laws about foreingers moving to Mexico to start a business. Looking for advice about opening a business in Mexico and any thoughts on Vallarta. Thanks!Advice for an American who is planning to move to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and open a business?
Keep in mind that your business will be seasonal. Mexicans will likely not come in because the items you're selling are luxuries to them. You'll be getting American business from spring break to Labor Day, basically.

Please advice on how to become an Application/ Business Consultant?
I am a graduate and would like to choose Application or Business consultant as my professional carrer. Can someone tell me how and what should I do? Is there any specific program that I need to attain or degree that I need? Please advice on how to become an Application/ Business Consultant?
All you need at this point is some sort of expertise. If you came out of school with hard, marketable skills (programming, accounting, etc.), then you may have a shot at getting hired directly into a consulting firm. If you lack concrete skills and knowledge, then just get some sort of operational job in a company that interests you. In that job, learn as much as you can. See if the company will provide training, or pay for licenses and certifications. Eventually, after several years of developing your skills and knowledge, you can then become an actual consultant, whether for a firm or independent. Please advice on how to become an Application/ Business Consultant?
The term applicaton consultant refers to computers and software ONLY. Business consultants do both IT consulting
[which hardware is best, what programs exist to solve what
types of problems] and business consultants also know about
marketing, HR, law and a lot more.
There are few good business consultants because it
is such a complex field. I am one. I hope you become one too.
A good biz consultant can fix or guide to repair, any biz within 1-2 weeks!
I have helped 165,000 people on their business concerns, so far!

Do you have any advice to give in starting a new gift boutique business?
My sister and I are considering starting up a new venture and eventually opening up our own business. We both, for years, have been crafty and creative and she has her own line of bath products and I have my line of gift baskets and gifts in a jar. Do you have any advice or tips you might want to share? We are in the Central Valley in California and would have even thought about more or less Internet selling to begin with, but obviously we are pretty new to the retail selling part outside of bazaars and boutiques both locally as well as those we travel to. Any thoughts? Thank you much!Do you have any advice to give in starting a new gift boutique business?
Do lots of homework into finding the right shop and the legalities of forming a partnership, etc. If you can do it, get a job in a boutique part time to see how things work and don't work. I made the mistake of starting a business without fully researching the market, and I lost a lot of money. Make sure that you have enough capital that you are willing to lose for a year. Sometimes a business takes time to get off the ground. But you have to be willing to lose that capital if the business does not get anywhere.
You might consider working from your garage and selling in a home shop via ebay, your own web site or Amazon.com. You would have a minimum overhead and could then build up a clientele.
I wish you lots of luck and enjoyment from your venture.Do you have any advice to give in starting a new gift boutique business?

What's the first bit of advice you would give to some one looking to start a small business?
I am interested in starting a small business in my down town area, which is growing very steadily and is promising. I want to open up a coffee shop/bakery, but have no clue where to start. I don't have a lot of money to invest initialy, so I have lots of questions about investors. Any information would be helpful! What's the first bit of advice you would give to some one looking to start a small business?
Write a business plan. Go to your local bookstore and buy a book about it. There will be several to choose from in the business section. Writing a business plan will force you to do the research and calculations necessary to plan your business venture. Plus, if you need to approach a bank about a business loan, they will ask for some sort of plan anyway. Doing this will make sure you've thought everything through. What's the first bit of advice you would give to some one looking to start a small business?
make a feasibility study on what business you are going to put up. And think of the type of market and the target customers you would like to have.

The investor's goal in Forex trading is to profit from foreign currency movements. Forex trading or currency trading is always done in currency pairs. For example, the exchange rate of EUR/USD on Aug 26th, 2003 was 1.0857. This number is also referred to as a ';Forex rate'; or just ';rate'; for short. If the investor had bought 1000 euros on that date, he would have paid 1085.70 U.S. dollars. One year later, the Forex rate was 1.2083, which means that the value of the euro (the numerator of the EUR/USD ratio) increased in relation to the U.S. dollar. The investor could now sell the

I am starting a business a little business on Amazon. How should I keep track of things for taxes? Any advice?
I am starting a business a little business on Amazon. How should I keep track of things for taxes? Any advice on how I should run things, or what software to use. Should I save receipts for the supplies I buy? Any advice on anything please. Thank you!I am starting a business a little business on Amazon. How should I keep track of things for taxes? Any advice?
I suggest you keep all your receipts and track your income and expenses. Definitely keep your receipts (best if you separate business related receipts from your personal receipts)
You can use a simple Excel spreadsheet or use a more sophisticated accounting program such as Quicken for home office. An Excel will do just fine.
Here are things you can deduct and claim as business deduction in your Schedule C come tax time:
- Fees/Commissions Amazon charges you for selling
- Internet access
- Shipping expenses such as postage/stamps, shipping boxes or mailers
- Promotion and advertising expenses you are running
- Office supplies such as papers, pens, calculators
- Equipment such as computers, scanners, fax machines, camera and other equipment you used to run your business
- Gasoline expenses for going to and fro the post office to ship your items
- Books and magazine subscriptions you bought for your business
I suggest you read books such as:
- Deduct It! Lower Your Small Business Taxes, Second Edition Paperback by Stephen Fishman
- J.K. Lasser's Taxes Made Easy for Your Home Based Business, 5th Edition Paperback by Gary W. CarterI am starting a business a little business on Amazon. How should I keep track of things for taxes? Any advice?
Keep every receipt that you get. Use only checks and credit cards to pay for things so you have a record. For starters you can use something rather simple like Quicken to kept tract of all of this. Normally Quicken is for a checking or savings account but you can tract your other expenses by imputing credit card expenditures as if they were a separate account. Check the IRS.gov web site they have lots of good advice. A form 1040 Schedule C is the form on which you report your business income and expenses. The following links will provide one, along with the instructions.

All these things could raise money for you, good luck hope everything goes to plan !!!Im 13, and want to start my own business to get some money . Any ideas / advice ?
The stuff I did here is all free to get started and took me a long time to research.
So over the past couple a years, I ended up running up a ton of debt (partying, girls, clothes, ya know) and didn't have a good job to pay this off. On top of that, I had my rent and car payment to worry about. I was working at Foot Locker making like $10 bucks an hour, so I needed to find a way to get some money.
I started to do some research and found out that a ton of government money is given to 'minorities' each year. The money can be pretty much used for whatever you want as long as you fill out all the info they need (your name and address, what you want to use the money for, any school you been to (i only finished high school)). I told them I wanted to start my own clothing line and needed to pay off my debts first and that was it. After a few weeks I got approved for a government scholarship. You can sign up to the program through this page - http://www.barbiefood.com/government-gra鈥?/a>
mow lawns in the summer, shovel snow in the winter. print off some simple fliers to post in your neighboorhood and hopefully people will call. Find the older residents because they are always the ones needing help with sometimes even the smallest things.
if you're interested, you can do surveys online for extra money, I know a good site thats free to join and for age 13 and up
check my blog for info and Proof of Payments
For a bussiness what I did a few years back was make my own cat niop toys and walk door to doo rselling them
i made a lot of money mostly because I was an adorable little girl but yea

Have you tried selling stuff you don't need on ebay or asking your parents to do a car boot sale. Or you could try and get a paper round?
what about making and selling jewellery or other craft work

Advice about starting own business refurbishing computers Please.?
I have done this on small scale for friends of friends and want to know how to get hold of ex office computers in bulk? Do council, libraies etc give to small firm? What do I put in a letter?Advice about starting own business refurbishing computers Please.?
this will be profitable/nonprofitable depending on how many are in the business in your area.
business will likely want you to put ina bid on their old computers, to compete with other companies. Some jsut send their straight to an auction, the downside to that is i think you rarely get to see whats in the pallet before you buy it. could be a buttload of PII 450'sAdvice about starting own business refurbishing computers Please.?
I work in a similar field and most of the companies that used to sell refurbished computers are moving away from it now because there are just too many people doing it making it a less profitable business. The same can be said about refurbished laptops. I have been lucky as my business is a repair company, specialising in laptop repairs. There aren't too many companies in the same field as me but I am well aware that I will lose that competetive edge as more and more laptop technicians will do the same as I have.

get in contact with local secondary schools, office's and small businesses, its a right chuff to get rid of things if your in a school, i know i work as a IT Tech in a sheffield school.
You can even get away with charging a small amount per item to come collect them
Because of regulations about disposing of various equipment, including computers there's quite a business to be made collecting them, let alone refurbishing them.
I would suggest you contact a few local offices offering to collect old computers for free and they'll be glad to let you have them.
Might even be worth stating in a letter that all data would be removed and offer to give them a certificate assuring them you've done it.cosmetic products pores

I want to expand my home business but I have bad credit. Does anyone have any advice on getting a loan?
I've been operating a small business offering administrative support to entrepreneurs and other small business owners. I am ready to launch my business to the next level by attaining office space and a more professional image. However, because of my credit I am unable to get a loan from anywhere. I've tried numerous places even online and still nothing. I have two small children so I am not really in a position to save. I currently work out of my home office but I want to market to more possible clients but I really need a more professional look. HELP!!!!!I want to expand my home business but I have bad credit. Does anyone have any advice on getting a loan?
There are plenty of places that offer quick loans for people with bad credit with no-hassle applications and easy requirements.
Some of these lenders even offer 1 minute approvals, and have both secured and unsecured loans, depending on your need and situation. Check the page listed below, it has information and bad credit lenders listed off and on.

check this small buisness with very low capital
vcollins1.qhealthzone.com
The only things I can think of are using credit cards (not a good idea though), borrowing from family and friends (I wouldn't really recommend this one either), asking for sponsorships from other local businesses....maybe you help them out with their business and they help you in some way, or you offer to promote their business and in turn they give you funds? And my last idea is that maybe you could start another home based business to give you some extra cash to use. I actually work from home, so I could help you with that idea. That is what I am doing to help to fund my new business. I commend you for wanting to expand upon your business! = )
if you do not have 1 years operating cash in the bank your not ready to open new office. good luck

And my last idea is that maybe you could start another home based business to give you some extra cash to use. I actually work from home, so I could help you with that idea. That is what I am doing to help to fund my new business. I commend you for wanting to expand upon your business! = )
if you do not have 1 years operating cash in the bank your not ready to open new office. good luck
Found advice on here about trying to start a wedding photography business.
Found advice on here about trying to start a wedding photography business. The advice I found was do not get a business license at first and try a couple of weddings and see if you are going to stick with it or not. All may not agree on it but my question is in California it sounds like the total price charged is taxable. Is that correct? Then if so how do you report sales tax if you don't have a license? And if the reply is don't then I would ask about my bank, they opened us a business checking account without a business license and or fictitious name. Does the bank report income deposited into that to any one? I am only asking in case this business does not take off what do I do about sales tax?Found advice on here about trying to start a wedding photography business.
You are correct about the entire selling price charged to customers being subject to sales tax in CA. In order to report the sales tax , you need to get a seller's permit with the Board of Equalization. You don't need a business license to apply for a sellers permit. There is no charge. Follow the link provided to find your local BOE office. If your business does not take off, it is easy to close your permit.
If you don't get a seller's permit, but get audited by the BOE, the auditor will look at your bank accounts, both private (if you are a sole proprietor) and business. They can get a subpeona if you don't hand the statements over voluntarily. If you can't prove otherwise, the deposits will be considered taxable income. The BOE exchanges information with the FTB (CA income tax) who exchanges info with the IRS, so you could get audited by all three.Found advice on here about trying to start a wedding photography business.
Check with the county clerks office and get all required licenses and permits. Consult with a tax attorney on the sales tax issues, laws vary from state to state. Also consult with an accountant to set up your books or take an accounting course, you want to be able to see how your business is doing, with the accounting books you will never know if you being successful or not.
Why not pay a visit to an accountant, tax adviser, attorney, or even your banker to start? I, for one, would not trust financial advice coming from a bunch of strangers here on Y!A.
*EDIT*
I did not mean to say any particular person's advice was bad. But asking on a forum like this is a crap shoot. You'll have some people who know what they're talking about, and some with who don't. Also laws are different from state to state. I just thought it would be a great idea for the OP to check with a trained person in his area. Sorry if I stepped on your feelings, J-Man, no harm meant.
Here in NC the license for photographer's is $50 per year. Not too bad. But, we also only have to charge tax on goods, not services. So, my time is not taxable, but my prints, etc. are. If I do a bundle that includes X number of hours and X number of prints, then the whole amount is taxable and must be reported as sales tax.
HOWEVER, by setting this up as a business I am also able to take deductions for my camera, supplies, travel, advertising, bank fees, checks, business cards, etc. etc., even a part of my home since I have a home studio, all on my personal tax returns. This will be my first full year, I showed a loss last year for the partial year and will show one again this year. But as long as I have *some* income each year I can keep showing a loss for a while. And, since I still have a day job, that can result in more money coming back to me at refund time.
Our accountant is the most honest you will ever meet. So, for NC at least, this is all above board.
Generally speaking (I'm no tax lawyer ) I believe you have to make over a certain amount of income to be liable for income tax.
Your best bet is to keep all your business associated documents together in one place, preferably in chronological order and at the end of the year have your tax preparer go over them.
As for a business checking account, I don't know how you opened one with out a valid tax ID #, for which you would need a registered business name. I'd just open up a plain old CA, in your name, and have your ';clients'; make checks payable to you.
One other note, as a former small business owner (photography) I can advise you to get some training in running a small business. Sadly the best shutterbug in the world won't stand a chance against others who are better at marketing and general business. It was the shortcoming of my little endevour...
THX: Ara57, No harm, no foul and I did'nt thumb down ya, matter of fact I'm gonna give you a thumb up just because someone did.

Need advice about my internet porn business?
So, I was wondering where it is legal to actually post my business. I will have my own adult site ( I'm the porn star ) very soon but, in the meantime I';m wanting to make extra money. So, I take requests for pictures, videos, live webcam, live chat, etc for a certain price. Any advice?Need advice about my internet porn business?
You can create a blog on a public site and just post a simple plug for your business there, as long as its in good taste for a general audience.
The site can be as kinkie as you can get, but the ads should be in good taste and really given the Caliber if drek that has been being advertised on YAHOO (etc....) I would say that it really shouldn't cost all that much to pay for banner ad space.
Zend me email - the idea is for the most part, charge what the maket will bear, %26amp; that is kinda hard to figure but I'm sure some business major in school has an answer for this.

I think I have an amazing idea for a Web site business, but I need some quick advice?
I need to work with some designer friends and Web developers, but before I do that, how can I ensure that my idea won't be stolen? Do I patent it? It's an exciting approach to a Web site business, and I want to tell people, but I don't want to get screwed. What can I do without shelling out tons of money to patent/trademark/copyright something that may not even be made down the line?I think I have an amazing idea for a Web site business, but I need some quick advice?
have them sign a non-disclosure agreement-with severe financial penalties for breaking it. You're still going to have to pay someone up front probably to do the web programming for you.

I need some serious advice on my family small business?
my Dad owns it and I run it with his help. He is very ill right now and not sure the prognosis yet or time he will be able, IF EVER, to come back and do his part.
Been at it over 25 years and I am beside myself with fear and not knowing what to do? He did all the taxes and major decision making. Business is slow too and we are struggling on top of his illness.
Any advice or calming words would sure help me at this time....Thanks.I need some serious advice on my family small business?
Best wishes and luck to you and your family.
While at times the world can seem to be a place where one's faith in oneself and family can be severely challenged, and faith in God, whatever his name may be, is tested, just keep in mind, it is only a test. You are still you, and you must keep the faith that things will work out, and you are meant to learn more about yourself and others from each test. May you persevere and triumph.
You must have learned a LOT during these years you worked at it. You have to pick up the reins and keep it going. When in doubt, just think, ';What would he have done?'; If you are not too sure, ask around. Ask for mentor organizations like business incubators or org like SCORE in your area for help as well. Ask your dad where the stuff are and get up to speed. Good luck, and Godspeed.I need some serious advice on my family small business?
Hi good morning and sorry to here this about your dad.
Taxes are easy to handle through a software or a low cost monthly accountant so this is not an issue just do not let taxes lapse it is hard and large penalties can compound making this a tax nightmare.
What is the business you are in? Small or not you are more then likely a focused business on a particular specialty and with 25 years of doing this you should be fearless about making major decisions but you should seek advice from the SBA Small Business Administration if you live in the USA?
There is a mentor program where you can also get advice before making large decisions about the business that might cause more harm then good.
The best thing about making large business discussions os to never make them without planning and a thought about the long term effects (long term meaning 1 year to 5 years).
First you need to ask Dad what he wants done with the business in the event he can not return. Be brave and have the conversation. This is the proper Business thing to do.
Second, find some assistance in the area your Dad handled. There is a group of retired businesspeople who can help. The name of the organization is SCORE. Do some research and find the chapter closest to you.
Third, ask yourself if you want to keep the business once Dad is out of the picture or would you rather close that chapter of your life? Knowing this answer will determine the steps you take in the not too distant future.
Be strong.

Wheres the best place to get advice on how to start up your own business only sensible answers please?
sba.gov website.....has all the info you will need. Also note there is a function for ';score counselors';....locate one near you, they will answer questions and walk you through putting a business plan together...what you need to do first. It is important that you are aware of all the regulations you need to meet (Federal, State, County, City), as that is the reason most small businesses fail. Well, it's not Yahoo Answers, I can tell you that much.
Most small businesses are just started by the proprietor without any advice, or maybe from a friend who has already done the same thing. Presumably you know what you want to do as your business. And presumably you know who it is aimed at. You need a set of paperwork with your company heading. You need letterheads, quotations, deleivery notes (maybe), invoices and statements. You need to keep records of all the expenses incurred in running your business. You need a seperate bank account. What else do you need?
Have you considered a small business coach? They can help you through all aspects of your business from idea and start up to operations.

You need to have a good idea what you want to do - make an appointment with the bank, he will give you guidance, a package and referr you onto another person once you have made a business plan (the pack will guide you on this) also take a look on businesslink - they will help for UK businesses but may have links to help you - it helped me with Morocco.

There are lots of free ways to advertise your business for free. List your business on as many websites as you can. Some such as Landscapedia.info allow growers to post inventories for free. Take advantage of the web to get your plants out there in as many places as possible.
If you take advantage of free advertising on the web, you can keep your business investment focused on materials until you make enough money to begin investing in growing your business.
Advice for an american who wants to move to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and start a small business?
My business partner and I are planning to move to Puerto Vallarta and open a small bookstore/wine/coffee shop. Have just started researching laws about foreingers moving to Mexico to start a business. Looking for advice about opening a business in Mexico and any thoughts on Vallarta. Thanks!Advice for an american who wants to move to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and start a small business?
Hola! I just moved back down here to start a business my self. I am working on the first stages of it at this point.
I am also Mexican by birth so I don't have to deal with that part of it. However I know that you can arrive as a tourist here and solicit your FM-3 once you are here. FM-3 it is a type of working permit issued by the immigration office.
I may be able to help with contact names and places to get answers to your questions: mexkimo@yahoo.com
They would let you also open a business that will generate work for Mexicans.Advice for an american who wants to move to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and start a small business?
The main point is in starting a business is that you can do something that a Mexican person cannot do. I own an English school in mexico, i was permitted to open it because i can speak and teach english better than a Mexican. If I wanted to open a store or something like that, I would not be permitted to so. You have to think of something you can do that a mexican cannot.
First you'll have to get visas in Mexico that will allow you to work there. It's not the same as the visa that you automatically get when you visit. See your nearest Mexican consulate for information on that.
Maybe you can search for existing business for sale there.

I am a Manager for a new Dog grooming business and I was just wanting advice on getting new business?
What would draw your attention to come to a new groom shop? Anything helps! Thanks a lot!I am a Manager for a new Dog grooming business and I was just wanting advice on getting new business?
tell people you hand strip border terriers i have one and find it hard to find a groomer who dose thisI am a Manager for a new Dog grooming business and I was just wanting advice on getting new business?
my dog has allergies and I'm supposed to bathe him a lot which I hate doing, to be honest if someone marketed towards my ';special needs'; dog, it would probably get my attention, because I really hate bathing him myself. anyways, good luck hope that helps.
run a coupon in a local paper for a discount for new customers. If they like your work they will keep coming back. Go to some local dog parks and post or hand out flyers there, leave flyer with local vet hospitals to pass out to their clients.
You could run a contest in the local paper for a ';Mutt Make-Over'; contest and have people send in pictures of their dogs and then pick a winner. The paper would probably run it for free. You could charge entrants a $10.00 fee and donate the money to a local pet rescue.
Don't use the green shampoo on the white poodles...they turn purple!
Networking!!! Introduce yourself to pet owners, Vets, Animal Shelter Volunteers, friends, anyone who has a dog or knows someone who has a dog. Why not offer an Open House for free nail clipping, refreshments, and maybe a contest (to gather names for mailings)??? Pass out flyers or coupons or business cards. Get a website offering advice or blog on pet issues. Some retail stores (non-competing) will give you permission to solicit customers. Ask first!!! See if you can get a dog food or snack company to provide you with samples that you can give away with your business card stapled to it.

I am thinking of starting a courier business. any advice on how to start?
Have you worked as a delivery driver for a courier company? I would suggest doing that first -if you haven't- to get a feel for how it works. Best to try for a smaller company rather than one of the larger ones (DHL, TNT etc). That will also get you up to speed withbeing self employed (keeping accounts, processing receipts etc)..if you haven't done that I mean....Whilst doing that start researching where you could set up: an area that does not have a courier company yet or not many (thats that hard part!) and put a business plan together (Very important).I am thinking of starting a courier business. any advice on how to start?
As Stephen L says, put together a plan for what you want to do. Think about whether your business will be bike couriers or vans as well, what area you're going to cover, types of items you'll carry and, most importantly, who you're target customers are and how you'll reach them.
This one is key as there are lots of courier companies out there. Why should anyone use your company in preference to the others? What makes your business different? This is what you'll need to get across quickly when you're writing to, talking to or advertising to prospective customers.
Your local Business Link can give you lots of free help and advice on starting your business. They run free seminars on the subject that take you through all the basics of setting up. They have business plan templates and, as has already been suggested, nearly all the banks give you information packs that have business plan guidance in them.
A business plan sometimes sounds a daunting prospect but you do need a plan, even if it's not terribly formal. Without a plan, you don't know where you're going and how you'll get there. You wouldn't send out a courier without clear instructions on where they're going. Don't do it in business.
Business Link will also give you information on any legal issues - licences and the like. You'll need the right kind of insurance, too. How to cover your business for lost and damaged items, as well as your premises and vehicles.
Good luck!I am thinking of starting a courier business. any advice on how to start?
Forward planning is the most important starting point. We have a free business advisory service for start-ups in our area - see if you have one in your area. Usually run by voluntary businessmen, women and bankers.
Put together a full Business Plan forecasting at least 2 years in advance. If you have no idea in this, go to your bank or any bank and pick up a Business Plan pack - there usually free.
If you know anyone who is an established business owner, go talk to them. Basically get as much info as you can before you take the plunge.
Best of luck with your venture,
Steve

I want to start a catering business, plz give me any advice!?
The most important things about starting a business is that you know the business very well, that you have the money to support you during the start up because it takes time for a business to produce revenue, know how much you will need in infrastructure, insurance and what license is required and much more. If you are open to other type of business check this people out. www.moneynowexpress.com for free business info.

What advice can you guys give me on starting a hand car washing business?
I want to start a hand car washing business but I want to know the do's and dont's of washing a carWhat advice can you guys give me on starting a hand car washing business?
use pretty girls in skimpy outfits.
what? Sex sells.
Thumb this! What advice can you guys give me on starting a hand car washing business?
Starting a car washing business in your neighborhood is actually pretty easy. If you have someone who you know very well that would let you clean their car and give referrals, than you're all set. Just make some flyers on the computer, advertising what areas of the car you clean, what products to use (Meguiers and Mothers is the best) And list your prices and obviously name and phone number.
Do's and Don'ts
-Wash car from the top down ( this prevents grime from the bottom from getting on the cleaner part of the paint and scratching it)
-Wash in a fast pace, but thorough too.
-Be courteous of their belongings
Also, make sure not to charge too much. I charge $10 for a basic exterior and $10 for interior. If they want wax, I add $5. My exterior contains, wash windows, tire shine, chrome/black trim polish. Interior includes vacuum, trim and dash cleaner, and interior windows. Shampooing is extra $5. Good Luck!!!
Doesn't sounds like one of those 'booming' businesses...
But what is booming, is working online. Check it out http://www.payme.ath.cx

You need a Business At Home policy, many companies won't offer it, it depends on the risk and how many customers you have. But that is the official term for it, so just call around and ask. At least that is how it is in England.

I want to start a travel agency business specializing in Florida travel, any advice how I get started?
Since you've never been in business before, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. You have to determine whether you'll start a web based business or one with a store front. I'd call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE.
The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a travel agency business specializing in Florida travel and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you'll concentrate on (your market ) and how you'll go after them.
You'll need to register the business with your state controller's office and make sure that you have any city and county licenses if any are needed where you live. All of this will come out in a business plan.

Is there any profit in home cake decorating business? Please i need experienced people to honestly advice.?
Thanks. Is there any profit in home cake decorating business? Please i need experienced people to honestly advice.?
No. Treat it as a hobby that you love and enjoy it.
Profits come from low cost low labour intensive inputs. Its easier to make a profit from cooking apple tarts and you need to build that up cos its the same customers who keep buying them. Sell them in local shops 5 at a time building to 100 a time in several shops nearby. No transport costs. Just great cooking and you have a job with profit :) xxIs there any profit in home cake decorating business? Please i need experienced people to honestly advice.?
If you market it correctly and price it for profit - not for friends - no friends when it comes to business
I think it entirely depends on how you manage the business. I have seen lots of small operations that had the best quality food you could ever want, go out of business because of just now knowing how to run the business side of things.
Perhaps you could take a course in starting up a small business at a local community college? Check the library to see if they have books on small businesses. If it were me, I would go out of my way to learn as much as possible before starting or investing any money or advertising.

What if I want to get professional advice about an idea I have to start an online business?
How do I know the idea won't be stolen?? Can you somehow patent an idea? What if I want to get professional advice about an idea I have to start an online business?
You can patent certain types of ideas: intellectual property. You don't know that your idea won't be stolen. You have to use good judgment in determining whom to share your ideas with, and how much you will share鈥攐n a case by case basis.
I recommend that you avoid divulging all aspects of your idea to those whom you do not have a solid reason to trust. Those emotionally stable individuals who are very consistent, conscientious, and selfless鈥攐ver a long period of time鈥攁re potentially worthy of trust.
Provide information strictly on a need-to-know basis. For instance, if you want to know about the mechanics of setting up a site (which provider to use or how to arrange for billing and payment by customers) then, you only need to tell those people what your expectations and needs are in those specific areas.
However, if you are raising funds to start the business then, you will have to provide a business plan, a mission statement, as well as short and long-term budgets, cash flow, income projections, etc..
Your local Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau may be able to assist you. In addition, if you check the classified section your local news and trade publications then, you may be able to find other organizations or associations of interest. Are you in school? Some of the schools in your area may have clubs or affiliations that could provide you with an opportunity to network, and perhaps find a mentor.
In cases where you do not need the feedback or active participation of others in order to obtain the knowledge and advice that you seek, you can always research books and on-line resources to obtain information concerning the particulars of starting a on-line business.

I need some business advice! How do I design their magazine for them?
So I just recieved a free magazine from around my area. It's got good content but it's poorly designed (Looks like it was done in publisher). It is a complimentary copy, I'm guessing people have to subscribe to recieve more copies.
I'm only 16, but I'd love to work as a designer on their magazine. I don't want pay, I think it would just be nice to get some experience and see my graphic design work in publish.
I have their e-mail address (given in magazine)...What do I say to them? I honestly have no idea how to approach the situation. Do I send them some of my work and see if they are interested? Will they be put off by my age? (16)I need some business advice! How do I design their magazine for them?
send them a nice letter saying how much you like the magazine etc and show them examples of your work. ask if you could go for some work experience or something. don't directly say 'this is crap, i can do better'. If you get them to look at it from a work experience angle they are more likely to listen. remember it's not what your saying its HOW you say it. good luck!cosmetic products pores
I'm only 16, but I'd love to work as a designer on their magazine. I don't want pay, I think it would just be nice to get some experience and see my graphic design work in publish.

Can you give me an advice how to start a data entry business?
While a lot of data entry jobs are scams, there are still many that are legitimate. The problem is that demand for these legitimate, well paying positions is so high that it is becoming harder and harder to get into them.
Most work involves typing data into forms, proofreading and formatting documents and writing letters for the company that employs you.
However, be aware that for many of these positions you do not get paid unless someone buys the product from your ad.
A great place to start looking for these types of positions is at sites like craigslist.org and Indeed.com
Here some final tips to help you find a legitimate company to work for:
-- Print out business cards and flyers notifying people about the service you offer... and hand them out at any chance you get.
-- Avoid free listing sites if possible when searching for jobs, as most will be scams. Invest in a website like craigslist.org or indeed.com
-- Be wary of doing business with a company that uses a free email service (such as hotmail, yahoo or msn).
-- If the company asks for a fee before answering any questions, walk away immediately.
-- Research, research and research to find out all you can about the company and to make sure they are legitimate.

Where can I get a business mentor that is willing to give me free advice?
I tried going to a local business consultant company and they wanted to charge me $25,000.00 a year. I just can't afford that. That's why I am trying to start my own business. I also went to the local score, but they weren't much help either. How can I find a good network of people without having to pay for such connections?Where can I get a business mentor that is willing to give me free advice?
Go to score.org and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will find the SCORE chapter nearest you. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor.
SCORE ';Counselors to America's Small Business'; is a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
SCORE was founded in 1964 and is headquartered in Herndon, VA and Washington, DC and has 389 chapters throughout the United States and its territories, with 11,500 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors. SCORE is America's premier source of free and confidential small business advice for entrepreneurs.
Where can I get a business mentor that is willing to give me free advice?
Not to be crass in anyway but those are parts of your business and just as you will NOT be giving your services away the people who give such advice to you will not give their services away.
What kind of advice do you need, financial, a plan for the busines, someone to hold your hand every step of the way (please do not be insulted these are valid questions)?
Have you consulted with your local Small Business Association?
I wish you nothing but the very best of luck.
I was going to say email me until...you said it was about marketing. That's my weak point too. However, email me if there's anything I can do to help.
Most business owners are happy to help out the little guy and not charge. Most of us got help along the way ourselves.

Any advice on home based business?
I'm considering becoming a Pampered Chef Consultant, but am worried the market is overly saturated already. Does anyone have any ideas on other home based businesses that are succesful and fairly lucrative? I have a friend who is very successful with Arbonne, so that's one idea. Any help is appreciated.Any advice on home based business?
I sell Pampered Chef and have a lot of people in my area that also sell PC. It is great to have such a great base of support and assistance nearby. Is the only reason you don't want to sell any of these things is because you think there won't be enough business to go around? I think that you should do something that you are passionate about rather than just picking something that is different from anyone else. If you are doing something you enjoy, your enthusiasm will show through and you will attract business to yourself. My recruiter once put it this way: ';Count the houses on your street (it was 35 or so). If you want to have 3 shows per month, that is 36 shows per year. You will barely make it off of your own street all year. If I do 3 shows a month, I will barely make it off of MY street.'; PC doesn't have territories, so we can do a show anywhere. There is plenty of business for everyone. I personally picked PC because I love to be creative in the kitchen and enjoy helping others shave time off of meal prep. I also knew that not everyone wears makeup or jewelry or lingerie, but everyone has to eat.
The bottom line is that you should choose whatever business incorporates what YOU enjoy. That will also make it seem less like work!Any advice on home based business?

I what to start business and run it from home can you give me advice on tax and insurance?
I also like to know the best way to advertiseI what to start business and run it from home can you give me advice on tax and insurance?
It all rather depends on what sort of business you intend on running as to what insurance you may or may not need, what taxes you may or may not be liable for and what is the best way to advertise.
If you provide some more information, you may (or may not) get some sensible answers!I what to start business and run it from home can you give me advice on tax and insurance?
When you start your business you need to contact Inland Revenue within 3 months and pay your contributions.
As a practitioner, in fact any business, you need separate business insurance. You'll need to think about professional liability insurance in case a client decides to sue for what they think is the wrong treatment. The Guild of Complimentary Therapists and one or two other professional bodies offer good deals on this. They buy in bulk, as it were and offer it to their members.
One of the best ways for your to advertise is word of mouth. Every satisfied customer will tell their friends, family and colleagues how much you've helped them.
Think about the treatments you give and the particular conditions that you work with. Advertise that you specialise in these treatments. One practitioner we know specialises in treating horses and sports injuries. She concentrates on building up her reputation in those two markets.
Assuming you're in the UK, speak to your local Business Link for free help and advice on starting up your business. Very helpful.
Good luck!
You need to keep accurate records of all your income and expenditure relating to this business. You need to register as self employed with HMRC within 3 mths of starting and will pay your class 2 NIC by monthly DD which they will set up for you. You will pay your tax in January and July following the tax year in whch it is earned.
I am a reiki master, what level are you at right now? if you are going to do this from home then you need tokeep track of your own taxes. usually keep about 33% aside for taxes of every dollar you take in. as for insurance that is up to you to decide, I know a lot of healers that do not carry insurance cause they cannot afford it. good luck to you if you have questions about reiki than you can email me
Yes I can.
Question is ... will I?

Any advice for a very young entrepreneur that wants to start a business without quitting his dayjob?
I'm 22 and would like to start my own retail clothing business without breaking the bank and quitting my day job. Is it doable? Any advice?Any advice for a very young entrepreneur that wants to start a business without quitting his dayjob?
It is doable, but the problem is that you're going to have to find investors. Also, because it will be a privately owned company, if it goes under, then you face losing everything you own and owing your investors considerable amounts of money. The best bet would be to find someone with a similar idea and incorporate before seeking investors. This limits your financial liability if something were to happen.
To get investors just have an original idea, a working prototype (in this case a model of your intended store. A temp. website would be good too.) From there, pray.
Good luck to you.Any advice for a very young entrepreneur that wants to start a business without quitting his dayjob?
Try selling your stull online nights and weekends until you make enough money to quit your dayjob. Be sure to get some of your friends to buy some of your clothing and tell them to spread the word.
I started lookking around and almost all the home business were scams or surveys that didn't really promise that much , but I finally found a home business where I am the boss and I can stay with my kids earning 500-5000 plus a month its up to me and I don't need hundreds of dollars to start just 1.00 to start so if your interested in owning your own business and working from home then contact me via e-mail or visit 1 of my websites.
Act locally, Think Globally. Do everything yourself. Build a website is a great first move. This way you can identify who you are and what you will be offering. Do not listen to anyone with negative comments. I opened my first business when I was 30 and if I would have listened to anyone with negative comments then I would have failed. Unfortunately many people including friends and family don't want to see you become successful. Take your time and watch your cash flow. Cash is king and is a deal breaker when owning a small business. Keep your head up, always be positive and good luck.
