Without knowing what part of the business you want to be in it's a bit difficult to say. That said there are some very general guidelines I can give you. If you want to be a musician or a music executive you should:
1) Network in music circles and get to know as many people as you can
2) Always be courteous and humble
3) Learn as much about the business itself and the people in the business as you can
4) Be willing to help people even if you don't see immediate upside in it for you.
5) Try not to take the word ';no'; personally and if you hear it, try again in a different way
6) Don't nod if you hear something in a conversation you don't understand, ask questions.
7) Approach anyone as you would a friend- we're all just people. Don't let someones status or accomplishment deter you from making a friend. (this does not apply when bodyguards are in the picture)
8) Make friends with people who have similar goals.
I wanted to make it ten but it was going to be a stretch.
