First you will need a business plan. Lenders want to know what direction your business is going and a business plan is your roadmap to success. No one (investor or banker) will lend you money without it. It will also tell how much you will need to get started and how much it will take for you to operate your business before you actually start making a profit. You can try to borrow money from family and friends, hold a bake sale or a dinner party and charge a flat fee. You can also sell products like they do for public schools. If you are interested in getting a business plan created, you can check out my website: www.wilkinsworks.com. It is currently under construction but will be available on Saturday. Also for fundraising ideas you can go to www.easy-fundraising-ideas.com. They can send you a free catalog and how you can go about holding a fundraiser using their products. GOOD LUCK!
P.S.: It will be hard to get your business off the ground with or without money. Do not let people discourage you. If you have cable or satelitte tv, tune into CNBC and what a show called the ';THE BIG IDEA'; it comes on every weeknight at 9pm CT. It features people who start business with basically nothing. They went through what you are going through and they share how they got over it.Any advice in getting business start up money. I have extensive knowledge in field just need finance.?
You are faced with a difficult problem. I have done 5 start ups and IPO over the years and you are faced with the classical problem of seed capital. If you think some one will loan you the money, you are wasting your time and theirs.
You will need to take on a partner who will want a very large piece of the business. You will need a very clear and achievable business plan. Most important question that you must be able to answer is: Why do I need you?
The second question will be what do you have into it? No one will give money to a start up unless the principals have everything they own on the line. This is a little insurance to be sure that you do not get mad one day and walk out. Also, do not expect to draw any income unless you have generated it from sales.
Finally you mentioned that you have a rolodex of names. Is that going to create a legal problem for the start up?
Without knowing more of the particulars that is all I can help you with.
